Pip
Border Collie, 4 years old. Fostered Loburn.

Pip is currently on a lifestyle block, with adults, older children, one medium sized placid dog, and 5 sheep (fine with). She has not been around cats or chickens before. I imagine her ideal home would be somewhere where she might be the only dog and can receive 100% of the attention and love she deserves. I do not believe she necessarily needs to live on a lifestyle block if she goes somewhere where she is taken out regularly and has company for a good part of the day. Somewhere quiet and relaxed where she can just be herself. She’s not overly energetic but does have an enquiring mind and loves daily walks.
Pip is a beautiful dog who is very calm and very quiet, who would be a loyal and loving companion. Her nickname should be shadow , because she will follow you everywhere.
When she first arrived she was unwell with an infection and discomfort which associated with some defensive behaviour and we didn’t see much of a tail wag, however once fully treated this immediately changed. But it’s important to understand that for new people, she needs time to get to know you, and to let her to come to you, when she is ready, in her own time.
She easily acclimatised to family routine and being inside a home. She settles down in her bed overnight (but do not forget the compulsory bedtime belly rub – once you’ve built her trust).
Her main goal in life is to seek affection, she’ll just nudge your hand constantly until you give her pats, or if she has to squeeze her nose and head under your arm to get between whatever currently has your attention and herself, then so be it.
When she came to us she didn’t even know what a leash was, however now , as soon as you reach for a lead she does her happy dancing. She’s been to the beach , walking on sand was a strange phenomenon but didn’t take much getting use to, she wasn’t too keen on the sea though. Good recall.
Her main focus is on her human and she will sit and watch you garden most of the day, as long as she has a nice shady spot from which to observe, although if that gets a bit boring she will go for a wander round the garden and find a better spot to relax and roll around in the grass.
If you do have another dog they would have to be relaxed and comfortable sharing the love as she can be quite demanding on her human and is occasionally protective of her patting space.
If you do leave her at home, while you might get given a disappointed look, she will settle happily into her safe space, being her bed.
Pip has made such progress and she is going to make an excellent companion for someone. She is eager to please and just desperate for love.
