Seeking a dog savvy family that are committed to, and have the time and patience for ongoing support/training for Miki.

Miki is (almost) a perfect package! She is a just right small-medium size and wonderful at home – she is very polite and respectful with the grumpy old dog, plays nicely (most of the time) with the cat, and is awesome with the kids and polite with visitors. If you like cuddles, she will soak up all the pats as long as someone is willing to give them.
Miki is toilet- and crate-trained, and can be left out alone for a few hours. She rarely barks in the garden or in the house, and is good at leaving things she’s supposed to. She will sleep in her crate, on a dog bed in the bedroom, or on a kids bed (if allowed :D)
She is always keen to play a game of tug or hide the toy, but can amuse herself when needed, and also settles well for a nap.
When on walks in quiet areas she is fine off-leash and doesn’t go far, She has a very good recall and generally listens very well. She is a sensitive dog and startles easily (big noises make her jump and she gets worried if you yell)- she says no harsh words or handling please!
Miki’s Huntaway/heading dog heritage means there are certain situations that are hard for her – when excited/aroused she can bark and lunge at (which can look scary), and chase/herd certain things. We are working on this and is getting better every day but her new family will need to understand she will need extra support with:
- Meeting dogs on-leash – she can get frustrated/excited and barky. She is otherwise fine meeting and playing off-leash.
- (Not) chasing runners, bikes, scooters, vehicles
- Barking at suspicious looking people (but is fine if properly introduced).
She is otherwise an absolute angel and a joy to live with.
Miki’s ideal family would have:
- Patience and a sense of humor
- Kids to cuddle and play with
- A dog buddy (or multiple, a friendly cat would be an acceptable substitute)
- Safe walk/exercise spots where she can be off-leash
Adoption process: application form, property visit, vet history check. We do meetings once the adoption process is successfully completed.
$400 – vaccinations, spay, micro-chip/NZCAR, registration, flea/worm up to date.
We do home out of the district (within South Island) and can arrange property visits. We do not send the dogs away on transporters.
Please message us all about your home and why you think that Miki would thrive in your care.
