Maddie – Huntaway – 6 years old. Fostered Mosgiel.
Maddie came into our care at the end of February. She was a failed working dog, and was incredibly painful, afraid and shutdown.
X-rays revealed:
- A broken and infected molar with abscessed roots
- Ankylosing spondylosis
- Hip dysplasia
Maddie has received all of the vet care required and has slowly grown in confidence. It’s been a long road, but it’s so rewarding to see all of the positive progress this beautiful natured girl has made. From her foster carers:
Maddie is a very gentle, loving dog who is settling well into home life. After a run, she is happy to chill in front of the fire and enjoys spending time with her people. She enjoys a couple of 30-minute walks each day, with the occasional longer 5 km adventure once or twice a week.
She is well behaved, has excellent recall, and is respectful of people and dogs. She gets along well with older and smaller dogs, although boisterous dogs can be a little overwhelming for her. Time is needed for Maddie to gain confidence around new people, she will be reserved at first.
I asked her foster carers what makes her special:
Maddie is on lifelong medication to manage her pain. She is also on Royal Canin Mobility and 4Cyte. She has been through so much and it’s super important we make the right match for her and her new people. Maddie responds well to kindness and a calm environment. We haven’t had her around children or cats.
