Jake – Adopted

Fostered at Waitati, can travel to Dunedin or Oamaru

Watch:

10 year old Jake came into our care from a Vet clinic in Alexandra.  Sadly his previous owner died some months ago, and Jake had no other options for suitable care.  Jake needs a cat free / stock free home.  He was breed to be a duck dog but was never any good at it.
This is from his foster Mum:  Jake is a beautiful natured hefty Labrador.  He adapted really quickly to our household of three other dogs, and only had one toilet accident on the first day which is amazing given he hadn’t been an inside dog.  He just wants to please and be your best friend  – he’s very affectionate and loves people and is responsive to requests.  He’s a bit of a chewer, loves his toys, and looks into your eyes with deep sadness when you tell him something isn’t for chewing, but he listens to what you’re saying and so it hasn’t been a problem at all.  He’s all Lab, LOVES the water, food and enjoys a couple of low key walks a day, as we are conscious of his arthritis and big size.  He’s not speedy but he’s strong (and strong on lead).  Good recall. We walked off leash at a reserve this morning and he was great at keeping me in sight.
He’s a snorer, a loud licker, an occasional dribbler, and a snuffler and its the perfect soundtrack to his loveable large personality.  He’s got lots of life in him and will make a very lovely companion for someone, either on his own or with other doggy pals.
Jake has arthritis in his paws, he is going well on medication for this, it needs to be ongoing to keep him comfortable – this is very important. Needs a good quality diet.

Jake is now neutered, fully vaccinated, chipped, registered.  We ask for a contribution towards our vet bills for his adoption, most importantly the right home that will treasure him.

Adoption process: application form, property visit, vet history check. We do meetings once the adoption process is successfully completed.

We do home out of the district and can arrange property visits. We do not send the dogs away on transporters. Residential properties require 5 ft fencing/gates. Please email us about your home and why you think he would thrive in your care.
