Gus was a sheep dog and sadly had an accident, breaking his femur (hip). The vet clinic called us to see if we could help him (rather than him being euthanised). It was recommended that Gus have his hind leg amputated, this was done on 29 April.
If anyone wishes to contribute to Gus’s vet bills, our account is:
Pound Paws Rescue, 06-0941-0488095-00 ref Gus. Thank you kindly.
Post Op: Gus has been an exceptional patient, very compliant, brave and gentle. He seems to be really happy and relaxed in his crate, it’s warm and cosy. The only time I hear a noise from him is when he greets me with a big wagging tail, otherwise he is quiet as a mouse. Met the cats a couple of times on lead, did not seem interested.
3 weeks on: Gus is a gorgeous natured gentle, laid back dog, he loves cuddles, and gets on well with other dogs. He loves a good sniff around and is nice on lead. He has gained some weight and has a nice covering over his ribs. He is mobilizing well and does not seem uncomfortable at all, loves snugging up in crate and still has only barked the once. First sign of playing today – he hid my shoe!
Ongoing care for Gus – he will need to be kept at a healthy weight – more on the slightly leaner side. He will need to be able to cruise around at his own pace. Not suited to lots of exercise as this will put too much pressure on his remaining limbs and we want him to have a long comfortable life ahead! Physio treatment from time to time is also recommended.
Adoption – $250 – includes neuter, parvo/kennel cough vaccinations, micro-chip, registration, flea/worm.
We have an adoption process to match our dogs up to the home that best suits their needs. A property visit will be carried out. 2 week trial period (upon successful completion of adoption process).
